Justice Party Gwangju Branch: "Basic Academic Support Centers Are Less Than One per Autonomous District in Gwangju"
Request for Significant Expansion and Improvement to Education Authorities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Justice Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party has argued that the out-of-school clinic centers supporting basic academic skills need to be significantly expanded to improve accessibility and awareness.
According to the '2020 Comprehensive Learning Clinic Center Status' confirmed by the Justice Party Gwangju City Party from Ministry of Education data on the 9th, there were only two basic academic support clinic centers in Gwangju as of April last year.
Although Superintendent of Education Jang Hwikuk and the education authorities emphasize basic academic skills, the Justice Party explained that in reality, there is less than one center per each of the five autonomous districts in Gwangju.
The Justice Party Gwangju City Party stated, "The Ministry of Education and various city and provincial education offices have been emphasizing basic academic skills in their New Year's messages and work plans as awareness of the COVID-19 education gap has increased," adding, "On January 1st last month, Superintendent Jang Hwikuk of Gwangju City Education Office announced in his New Year's address that the first goal is to resolve the education gap and that he would implement 'Customized Basic Academic Responsibility Guidance' to address the education gap caused by remote education."
They continued, "In particular, he said they would develop customized basic academic diagnosis, improvement tests, and correction materials for Gwangju students, and several education leaders including the Deputy Prime Minister of Education have mentioned basic academic skills," and "However, the comprehensive learning clinic centers supporting basic academic skills are less than one per each of the five autonomous districts in Gwangju."
They then requested, "We hope the education authorities actively consider a significant expansion so that there are centers near homes or schools with good accessibility and increased awareness."
