LANXESS Acquires Packaging Antimicrobial Specialist 'Intas'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] German specialty chemicals company LANXESS is strengthening its consumer protection-related business by acquiring INTACE, a French specialty antimicrobial agent company for the packaging industry.
Earlier this year, LANXESS entered exclusive negotiations to acquire the French animal disinfectant and hygiene solutions company Theseo Group, and is now pursuing the acquisition of INTACE, solidifying its position as a global leader in consumer protection product manufacturing.
Headquartered in Paris, France, INTACE is a manufacturer of specialty antimicrobial agents for the packaging industry, producing antimicrobial agents used in packaging materials such as paper, cardboard, soap packaging, labels, and banknotes. As of 2020, it recorded sales in the multi-million euro range. The acquisition process is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2021.

Through this acquisition, LANXESS will further enhance its mold and bacteria prevention technology applied to consumer goods packaging and labels, actively responding to strong market demand in line with recent packaging industry trends rapidly shifting from plastic to paper. The synergy effect of INTACE’s strong customer network and LANXESS’s global presence and regulatory expertise is also anticipated.
