Seoul City Provides Free Installation of Timer-Type Gas Shutoff Devices to 7,900 Vulnerable Households
Free Installation for Basic Livelihood Security Recipients and Others
Applications Accepted from 25 Autonomous Districts Until March
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 8th that it will distribute timer-type gas shut-off devices (gas timer cocks) to 7,927 households, including basic livelihood security recipients and households with disabled members, to prevent gas accidents among vulnerable groups.
Since 2010, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters has invested 1.412 billion KRW over 11 years to complete the distribution of gas shut-off devices to 29,472 vulnerable households in Seoul. Recognized for its effectiveness in preventing gas accidents and realizing safety welfare for vulnerable groups, the project has been rated "very excellent" for five consecutive years in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's local subsidy project operation evaluation.
With the recent increase in time spent at home due to social distancing, raising concerns about a rise in gas accidents during cooking, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters plans to expand the installation target by about 3,000 households compared to last year. Applications for installation support are being accepted through 25 autonomous districts until March, and considering the COVID-19 transmission situation, installation visits will be conducted by the end of the year.
