"Park Won-soon Is Not That Kind of Person, Trust Until the End"…Wife Kang Nan-hee's Handwritten Letter Confirmed
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] As a handwritten letter from Kang Nan-hee, the wife of the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, is spreading mainly online, a source has confirmed that the letter was indeed written by her.
On the 6th, photos of two handwritten letters starting with "Comrades of Park Won-soon, this is Kang Nan-hee" and a petition submitted to the National Human Rights Commission circulated on online communities.
The letter gained more attention as Kim Yong-min, chairman of Peace Tree and a former member of "Na Ggom-su (I am a Trickster)," and Min Kyung-guk, former Seoul City Personnel Planning Secretary, shared it on social media.
According to the letter, Mrs. Kang appealed, "My husband Park Won-soon is not that kind of person," and said, "I believe the truth has not yet been revealed. Having observed him for 40 years, the essence of Park Won-soon's spirit that I know is morality."
She continued, "My family and I believe in Park Won-soon's morality and think it must be restored," adding, "I will steady my breath, tie my shoelaces, and slowly devote my whole heart to thinking about what must be done to ultimately protect him."
Mrs. Kang expressed frustration, saying, "After reading the statement from Parkgisa (short for 'People Remembering Park Won-soon'), our family is in great sorrow," and noted, "The statement includes content such as 'accepting the Human Rights Commission's sexual harassment ruling, distinguishing Park Won-soon's merits and faults, and acknowledging that no human is perfect."

This was in response to the National Human Rights Commission's announcement on the 25th of last month regarding its ex officio investigation into the sexual harassment case involving the late mayor, stating that "there is sufficient grounds to judge it as sexual harassment."
On the 7th, a Parkgisa official told Newsis in a phone interview, "The letter was indeed written directly by Mrs. Kang," and added, "The family of the late mayor delivered it directly to Parkgisa, and some associates appear to have shared it online, leading to its spread."
Parkgisa explained, "Mrs. Kang expressing regret toward Parkgisa, which stated it 'takes the Human Rights Commission's (sexual misconduct) conclusion seriously,' is understandable as a bereaved family," and added, "While Parkgisa also regrets the Human Rights Commission's conclusion, it issued such a statement out of respect for the national human rights institution and to prevent ongoing social controversy."
