Hwang Jae-eun, Gyeongnam Provincial Councilor, "Men and Women Must Be Guaranteed Equal Professional Rights"
Demand for Expansion of Female Farmer Voucher Support and Joint Farm Owner Registration Leads to Visible Results
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Hwang Jae-eun, a member of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council's Education Committee, urged the province to "not be complacent and to continuously strive to improve the status and protect the rights of women farmers" in response to last year's call for improved support policies for women farmers in the province.
In particular, during a five-minute speech at the time, Representative Hwang pointed out that the voucher program supporting welfare and cultural activities for women farmers was inferior in scope and scale compared to other cities and provinces, and called for immediate improvement.
Following Representative Hwang's remarks, the province recently expanded the eligibility for support from women farmers under 65 years old to those under 70 years old, and increased the support amount from 100,000 KRW to 130,000 KRW per person.
Moreover, it was found that concrete results are emerging, such as the registration rate of women farmers as co-managers in the province increasing from 4.8% at the end of 2018 to 6.7% at the end of last year.

Regarding this, Representative Hwang said, "Until now, women farmers have been perceived as auxiliary labor and regrettably have not been guaranteed proper status and authority as the main agents of agricultural production," adding, "From now on, efforts should be made to ensure that women farmers can secure equal professional rights with men through registration as co-managers."
