Josanghyun Returns as Gwangsan District Council Member... Execution Suspension Granted
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Jo Sang-hyun, an independent member of the Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City who lost his council seat due to a gapjil controversy, has returned to the council.
According to the Gwangsan District Council on the 1st, the court approved Jo's injunction to suspend the execution of the expulsion resolution against the council on the same day.
With the court's approval, Jo will be reinstated about two months after his expulsion.
The Gwangsan District Council decided to expel Jo on November 23 last year due to various gapjil incidents that caused public uproar.
The council held a vote on Jo's expulsion motion, and all 17 members present, except Jo himself, voted in favor, passing the motion.
Last year, a survey related to local councils conducted by the National Public Officials Labor Union Gwangju Regional Headquarters revealed Jo's gapjil behaviors, including verbal abuse and involvement in vested interests.
Accordingly, the Gwangsan District Council's Ethics Special Committee pushed for Jo's expulsion from the council, considering his past controversies related to gapjil.
After being expelled, Jo immediately issued a statement expressing his intention to appeal and announced legal disputes.
