Hyundai Motor Sells 319,959 Units Domestically and Internationally in January... 1.6% Increase Compared to Same Month Last Year
Domestic Sales Increase by 25%, Overseas Exports Decrease by 2.5%
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 1st that it sold a total of 319,959 vehicles in domestic and overseas markets in January. This represents a 1.6% increase compared to the same month last year.
By market, the domestic market saw sales of 59,501 units, a 25.0% increase compared to the same period last year. Sedans led the growth with the Grandeur selling 8,081 units, followed by the Avante (6,552 units) and Sonata (3,612 units), totaling 18,291 units sold.
Recreational Vehicles (RVs) sold a total of 17,271 units, including 6,733 Tucson, 4,313 Santa Fe, and 3,818 Palisade units. Additionally, commercial vehicles sold 10,242 small commercial vehicles and 2,200 large commercial vehicles.
The premium brand Genesis sold a total of 11,497 units, a 283.2% increase compared to the same period last year, including 5,650 G80, 2,287 GV70, and 1,965 GV80 units.
On the other hand, Hyundai sold 260,458 units in overseas markets, a 2.5% decrease. This decline is mainly attributed to the continued decrease in demand due to the third wave of COVID-19.

A Hyundai Motor official stated, "We will continue proactive risk management efforts by preparing countermeasures for each region to overcome the crisis caused by the COVID-19 situation," adding, "We will do our best to successfully penetrate the global market with the Ioniq and Genesis brands."
