Yangsan-si, "Just One Phone Call for Tax Collection Deferral"
Support for Local Tax Collection Deferral
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 29th that it will support local tax collection deferrals for property tax and automobile tax payers for 3 months (up to 1 year) without requiring tax payment guarantees, with just a phone call.
Recently, at a COVID-19 response meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo proposed the 'local tax surcharge reduction for COVID-19 victims.'
At that time, unlike national taxes, local taxes do not have a surcharge reduction system for delinquencies, and the Minister of the Interior and Safety responded that legislative improvements are planned.
Accordingly, since legislative support will take time, the city decided to minimize surcharges by proactively deferring collection through a phone call before delinquencies occur to prevent surcharge generation.
Taxpayers wishing to receive support can call the phone number listed on the local tax bill within the month they receive the bill.
The support targets regular property tax and automobile tax payers who have suffered direct or indirect damage due to COVID-19.
Additionally, if direct damage is confirmed, extension of deadlines will also be supported for reported tax items such as local income tax and resident tax.
