In response, Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) is promoting the ‘2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’ for three months from November 16 last year to February 15, to help residents facing difficulties in their daily lives.
The district is jointly conducting fundraising activities with local residents, institutions, and organizations, aiming for a total donation amount of 1.305 billion KRW, and as of the 27th, has received donations and goods worth 1.26889 billion KRW, which is 96% of the target amount.
Starting with district employees taking the lead and participating in QR code donations, religious groups in the area, an anonymous donor who identified themselves as the ‘Hodugwaja Ajusshi’ (Walnut Pastry Uncle), and a foreign restaurant owner operating in Konkuk University Lamb Skewer Street also joined in supporting with rice donations.
Additionally, children from local daycare centers and kindergartens donated 20 million KRW, which they saved in piggy banks with their small hands over a year, and a single mother and daughter donated 10 million KRW for single-parent families at the end of the year.
Furthermore, the Gwangnaru Scholarship Foundation and the Hwayang Gwimok Scholarship Foundation donated 16.2 million KRW along with school bags and stationery to support low-income youths’ education, demonstrating diverse donations and sharing from all walks of life.
District Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, “Although everyone is going through a difficult time due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it is precisely at times like this that warm hands of compassion for marginalized neighbors are more desperately needed. I thank the residents who have always taken the lead in donations every year, the anonymous donation angels, and the children who participated with warm hearts, and I ask for continued interest and action during the remaining period.”
Meanwhile, the district is fostering a culture of donation by introducing a QR code donation system that allows easy small donations, as well as holding non-face-to-face donation day events by neighborhood and promotional campaigns to encourage voluntary participation by residents.
The QR codes are available at Gwangjin-gu Office and each neighborhood community center, and participation is also possible through the Community Chest reception desks installed at the Welfare Policy Division of the district office and neighborhood community centers, as well as via the online account (Woori Bank 015-176590-13-519).
