View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) will demolish vacant houses as part of the 생활SOC project to create two additional urban gardens for residents.
생활SOC refers to life convenience enhancement facilities that improve residential environments and promote local vitality by creating customized spaces needed by local residents.
Dongdaemun-gu reviewed ways to utilize vacant houses considering location and surrounding conditions, such as urban gardens, resident rest areas, and parking lots, and decided to create urban gardens with high resident utilization.
The target sites are vacant houses located at 32-8 Cheongnyangni-dong and 335-22 Huigyeong-dong, which will be demolished and transformed into urban gardens measuring 99㎡ and 63㎡ respectively.
The district plans to complete the demolition of the vacant houses by February and create the urban gardens by March to open them to residents.
Mayor You Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu visited the first urban garden created at 323-9 Dapsimni-dong in September last year and personally sowed radish, lettuce, spinach, and other crops.
A sharing event was also held with the vegetables harvested there, resulting in high resident satisfaction.

Mayor You Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “I hope residents enjoy small daily pleasures and find mental relaxation by tending the urban gardens,” and added, “We will actively consider various measures to ensure that vacant houses left unattended throughout the region can be reborn as spaces for residents.”
