SK Energy Signs MOU with Seoul City to Promote Renewable Energy and Eco-Friendly Vehicle Adoption
Seoul City and Oil Industry Join Hands for the First Time to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and Expand Eco-Friendly Vehicles
Establishing Eco-Friendly Vehicle Infrastructure Including Solar Power Facilities and Electric Vehicle Chargers at SK Gas Stations
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, SK Energy is joining hands with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to expand the distribution of renewable energy and build eco-friendly vehicle infrastructure.
SK Energy announced on the 20th that it signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the Seosomun Annex of Seoul City Hall to expand the distribution of eco-friendly vehicles by installing solar power generation facilities and electric vehicle charging facilities at SK gas stations and charging stations. The signing ceremony was attended by Jung Soo-yong, Head of Seoul's Climate and Environment Headquarters, and Oh Jong-hoon, CEO of SK Energy P&M CIC.
According to this business agreement, Seoul and SK Energy will first collaborate to install solar power generation and electric vehicle charging facilities at all SK gas stations and charging stations where installation is possible. In particular, they plan to propose regulatory improvements to the government that hinder the distribution of eco-friendly energy, such as eco-friendly vehicle charging infrastructure at gas stations and charging stations and fuel cell installations, and also promote demonstration projects through regulatory sandboxes.
In addition, they plan to promote various mutual cooperation efforts, including supporting the commercialization of new products that have passed through Seoul's solar power demonstration complex and supporting the development of eco-friendly vehicles and charging facility technologies suitable for Seoul. To this end, a working-level consultative body will be formed between Seoul and SK Energy to hold regular consultations.
This agreement is significant as it represents the first cooperation model between the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the petroleum industry for energy transition and eco-friendly vehicle distribution in a large city. Seoul plans to strengthen various collaborations with SK Energy in multiple fields to successfully establish this eco-friendly energy transition model and develop sustainable low-carbon eco-friendly projects.
Seoul declared "2050 Carbon Neutrality" in July 2020 and announced its commitment to actively promote renewable energy and eco-friendly vehicle distribution. SK Energy has set a goal to transform into a low-carbon, eco-friendly company based on a management policy that prioritizes eco-friendliness, social responsibility, and governance improvement.
