Ministry of Industry Invests 244.2 Billion KRW in Fostering Talent for Industrial Innovation
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 20th that it will invest a total of 244.2 billion KRW this year to nurture industrial innovation talents in four areas: fostering new industries, innovating core industries, carbon neutrality and energy transition, and industry-academia cooperation and infrastructure building. This represents a 46% increase compared to last year.
First, 495 billion KRW will be invested in new industry sectors such as system and artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors, bio, and future cars, which is a 57% increase from last year. For system and AI semiconductors, where demand for manpower is increasing, 8.3 billion KRW will be allocated to train master's and doctoral level experts, and a contract-based department linked to recruitment will be newly established for undergraduates to focus on talent development based on corporate demand. The bio sector will receive 7.6 billion KRW, and the future car sector will receive 10.5 billion KRW.
1.002 trillion KRW will be invested in innovating core industries such as digital New Deal and materials, parts, and equipment innovation. This is an 86.3% increase compared to last year. To nurture talents who will lead the digital New Deal, including digital transformation of manufacturing, data-network-AI convergence in core industries, and the spread of smart industrial complexes, 71.3 billion KRW will be invested, and 28.9 billion KRW will be allocated to the materials, parts, and equipment sector, which forms the foundation of manufacturing competitiveness.
480 billion KRW, a 23.3% increase from the previous year, will be supported in the Green New Deal and carbon neutrality sectors. Investment will focus on areas with high manpower demand from energy new industry companies such as solar power and hydrogen to nurture specialized talents in the energy sector.
Additionally, 46.2 billion KRW will be invested in industry-academia cooperation and infrastructure building. Industry-academia cooperation will be strengthened for university education based on field demand, and talent development projects related to industrial infrastructure such as testing and certification and trade advancement will also be expanded.
