‘Crash Landing on Unification’, Composed of Competency-Enhancing Content Suitable for Youth... Yoodonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, “Program Support Planned to Help Youth Envision the Future of Unification”
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) was selected as the best autonomous district for two consecutive years by operating a youth-tailored peace and unification education program at the ‘2020 Seoul Peace and Unification Education Project Performance Presentation.’
Mapo-gu’s youth-tailored peace and unification education program was developed by Mapo Central Library and is based on ‘Haha go1,’ which was praised as an ‘interesting and excellent original curriculum’ by the 2019 project selection evaluation committee. It is a program that approaches youth one step closer.
‘Crash Landing of Unification’ (Haha go2), promoted in 2020, is a program designed around experiential and exploratory activities focused on everyday culture and global environmental issues to understand the differences between South and North Korea and to prepare youth for an era of coexistence. It was designed with keywords such as cultivating unification capabilities suitable for youth and media and information literacy.
From the planning stage to operation, youth instructors at Mapo Central Library took the lead in steadily promoting the program so that youth could think about the meaning of unification in the upcoming unification era and positively recognize its necessity.
In particular, by combining face-to-face and non-face-to-face education due to COVID-19, various content was produced and distributed to increase interest and participation in peace and unification in various locations, with 73 sessions annually and 12,377 elementary and middle school students in the region participating.
The ‘2020 Seoul Peace and Unification Education Project Performance Presentation’ was held online due to COVID-19, and the final ranking was decided through evaluations by on-site judges.
Meanwhile, Mapo-gu was recognized for its educational expertise not only by being selected as the best autonomous district this time but also by winning the Minister of Unification Award for two consecutive years at the ‘Youth Peace and Unification Experience Program Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Unification through Mapo Central Library.
