Cold Wave and Heavy Snow Amid COVID-19... TMON's 'Stay-at-Home' Heating-Related Sales Double
Electric Heater 208%, Electric Blanket 68%, Heating Tent 151%, Hot Pack 178% Increase
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] TMON (CEO Lee Jin-won) announced on the 14th that sales related to heating and warmth more than doubled on average compared to the same period last year, after analyzing sales from January 1 to 12, during the cold wave and heavy snowfall. This is interpreted as a surge in interest in 'stay-at-home' warming products due to the overlap of the COVID-19 pandemic and the severe cold weather.
Among major winter heating appliances, electric heaters recorded the highest increase rate at 208%. Sales of hot water mats and electric heating pads rose by 68%, and electric blankets by 45%. Sales of auxiliary heating products that improve indoor heating efficiency also increased, with insulation products such as insulation sheets and draft stoppers rising by 198%, and heating tents by 151%. Essential winter items like blankets (518%), hot packs (178%), and thermal underwear also showed a high growth rate exceeding 200%.
As time spent at home increased, the growth rate of homewear also noticeably rose. While the increase in outerwear such as padded jackets slightly exceeded the usual level, sales of homewear suitable for indoor life, such as pajamas and loungewear, surged due to strengthened social distancing measures amid COVID-19. Sales of men's homewear increased by 323%, women's by 109%, and children's by 259%, with sleepwear sales also rising by 82%. Slippers made of warm and fur materials worn at home also gained popularity with a 288% increase in sales.
Demand for cold-weather accessories also surged due to the sudden severe cold. Compared to last year, sales of earmuffs skyrocketed by 13,117%, and sales of gloves (462%) and neck warmers (249%) also increased. Due to consecutive heavy snowfalls, sales of winter car accessories, including snow chains (1860%) and frost and fog prevention products (295%), also surged.
