Two COVID-19 Cases Confirmed at Yongsan US Military Base
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter]Two additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at the Yongsan US military base.
The United States Forces Korea (USFK) announced on the 13th that one American employee working at the Yongsan US military base and one Korean taxi driver exclusively serving the US military tested positive for COVID-19 on the 11th.
Both confirmed cases reside in Seoul. The American employee last visited the Yongsan US military base on the 8th, and the Korean taxi driver on the 10th. Currently self-isolating at their homes outside the base, they are awaiting transfer to COVID-19 dedicated treatment facilities? the American employee to Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and the Korean taxi driver to a treatment facility operated by Korean health authorities.

The USFK is conducting epidemiological investigations in cooperation with Korean health authorities and is carrying out disinfection operations at facilities inside and outside the base recently visited by the confirmed cases. Since an American civilian employee tested positive on the 5th at the Yongsan US military base, three other American civilian employees who had direct contact with them, including family members, have also tested positive, bringing the total number of confirmed cases at the base to seven. This increases the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases related to the USFK to 583.
