President Moon's Approval Rating Hits New Low at 35.5%, Negative Ratings Reach Record High at 60.9% [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration has remained in the 30% range for six consecutive weeks, hitting a new low. The disapproval rating surpassed 60% for the first time since his inauguration, reaching a record high.
According to a poll conducted by Realmeter on behalf of YTN from the 4th to the 8th, President Moon's approval rating (positive evaluation) dropped by 1.1 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 35.5%, the lowest since his inauguration, the agency announced on the 11th. The disapproval rating rose by 1.0 percentage point to 60.9%, marking the highest level since the government took office.
In particular, the disapproval rating notably increased in Daegu·Gyeongbuk (11.6 percentage points), Justice Party supporters (10.3 percentage points), unemployed individuals (8.4 percentage points), women (3.5 percentage points), people in their 30s (3.8 percentage points), conservatives (2.6 percentage points), and those in their 20s (2.5 percentage points).
The approval rating rose among Open Democratic Party supporters (4.8 percentage points), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam residents (4.6 percentage points), people in their 50s (3.5 percentage points), the Honam region (3.3 percentage points), and labor workers (2.8 percentage points).
Realmeter analyzed, "The recent controversies over the pardoning of two former presidents, ongoing criticism of the administrative system following the Jeong-in abuse case, and the spread of COVID-19 cases within the Dongbu Detention Center appear to have collectively influenced these results."
Regarding party support, the People Power Party rose by 3.1 percentage points to 33.5%, while the Democratic Party of Korea fell by 0.4 percentage points to 29.3%. The gap between the two parties widened to 4.2 percentage points, exceeding the margin of error.
Other parties recorded the following support levels: People’s Party 8.0%, Open Democratic Party 5.4%, Justice Party 4.8%, Basic Income Party 0.7%, and Transition Korea 0.6%.
