The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on the 9th, "One crew member (officer) of our navy ship (fast attack craft), who went missing while performing a night mission yesterday (the 8th) around 10 PM, was found dead in the southern waters off Baengnyeongdo and is being transported to Pyeongtaek Port."
The missing officer was Sergeant A, whose last appearance was captured on the fast attack craft's CCTV at around 9:35 PM on the 8th, the day he went missing. The fast attack craft A was on board is a 450-ton guided missile fast attack craft, and it is understood that about 40 people, including A, were on board at the time.
The fast attack craft was carrying out a mission in the southern waters, and the fact of A's disappearance was finally confirmed around 10:30 PM after entering Baengnyeongdo. Accordingly, it is estimated that the disappearance occurred between 9:35 PM and 10:30 PM.
At the time, the naval ship was reportedly moving to perform a night guard mission. It was understood that it was snowing and cloudy in the nearby waters when A went missing. The wave height was relatively high, around 2.5 meters, and the wind was also strong. It has been suggested that the ship's deck might have been slippery due to the snow and low temperature.
