538 COVID-19 Cases Among USFK Exceed South Korean Military
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases related to the United States Forces Korea (USFK) has reached 538.
According to the USFK Command on the 7th, between the 22nd of last month and the 6th of this month, 25 individuals, including 21 soldiers and 4 family members who arrived in Korea through Incheon International Airport or Osan Air Base, tested positive for COVID-19.
Nineteen tested positive immediately upon entry, five were confirmed during a second test while in quarantine, and one was diagnosed during a mandatory inspection before quarantine release.
They have been transferred to COVID-19 dedicated quarantine facilities at Camp Humphreys, a US military base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and Osan Air Base, where they are receiving treatment.
The USFK previously reported that three family members, including a US civilian employee working at the Yongsan US military base in Seoul, his spouse, and child, tested positive for COVID-19. The USFK is conducting epidemiological investigations in cooperation with Korean health authorities and is carrying out disinfection operations at facilities inside and outside the bases recently visited by these individuals.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the USFK stands at 538, surpassing the total cumulative confirmed cases of 509 within the Korean military as of 10 a.m. today. A significant portion of the USFK-related cases are soldiers and accompanying family members who entered from overseas, including the United States.

Meanwhile, the USFK has recently informed its soldiers that starting from the 8th, all USFK-related personnel arriving in Korea must carry a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test certificate obtained within 72 hours prior to departure.
