Seoul Reports 298 New COVID-19 Cases Yesterday... 6 Deaths
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul is once again approaching the 300 mark.
As of midnight on the 7th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul increased by 298 from the previous day, bringing the total cumulative cases to 20,899.
The daily new cases in Seoul peaked at 552 on November 24th last month, then maintained around 300 cases from December 29th to 31st. On January 1st, the number dropped to 250, and further decreased to 198 on the 2nd. However, on the 3rd, cases rose again to 329, then fell to 199 on the 4th, followed by 263 on the 5th and 298 on the 6th.
On the 6th, 67 additional cases were confirmed related to the Dongbu Detention Center in Songpa-gu, bringing the total number of cases linked to this facility in Seoul to 1,142.
Additionally, cluster infections continue to spread in elderly and disabled care facilities, including 3 new cases related to a residential facility for the disabled in Songpa-gu (total 76), 2 cases related to nursing hospitals and nursing homes in Guro-gu (total 218), and 2 cases related to elderly facilities in Dongdaemun-gu (total 42).
The death toll increased by 6, bringing the total cumulative deaths in Seoul to 213. So far, 12,543 patients have been declared recovered and discharged, while 8,143 are currently undergoing isolation treatment.
