[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 7th that it has been newly selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's '2021 Regional Science Culture Activation Support Project' and will receive 225 million KRW in national funding annually.
This is the first project selected this year, and Gyeongsangbuk-do welcomed it as a more meaningful signal for securing national funds.
The 'Regional Science Culture Activation Support Project' is based on the Ministry of Science and ICT's '3rd Basic Plan for Science and Technology Culture' (2020?2025), and is a project to establish a regional science culture hub center as an external executing organization for metropolitan local governments to comprehensively plan and operate regional science culture activation projects.
Six metropolitan local governments, including Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gangwon, Gyeonggi, Sejong, Incheon, and Jeonnam, were selected this time.
The Gyeongbuk Science Culture Hub Center, which will be managed by Gyeongbuk Technopark on consignment, will perform roles such as ▲establishing an integrated hub for spreading regional science culture ▲laying the foundation for nurturing future science talents ▲expanding opportunities for residents to enjoy science culture ▲activating regional science culture linkage, cooperation, and communication.

Jang Sang-gil, Director of the Science Industry Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, said, "It is significant that we have established a foundation where all residents can enjoy science culture by systematically promoting science culture activation projects that had been carried out sporadically until now," adding, "Starting with the first project selection of the new year, we will actively participate in science-related public projects and focus on securing future growth engines."
