SK Hynix Declares 2030 Social Value Goals: "Practicing a New Corporate Spirit"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] SK Hynix announced on the 7th its mid- to long-term roadmap, ‘SV 2030,’ aimed at maximizing the creation of social value.
Kim Yoon-wook, Head of Sustainable Management at SK Hynix, who has been leading this project, explained, "This declaration concretizes the mid- to long-term social value creation goals for the next 10 years, linked to SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won's theme of ‘New Entrepreneurship.’" Chairman Chey emphasized in his New Year's address this year that "it is time for a ‘new entrepreneurship’ that empathizes with society and works together to solve problems." Kim added, "Since SV, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) are important pillars of the Financial Story promoted at the SK Group level, we will focus the company’s capabilities to implement SV 2030."
To concretize SV 2030, SK Hynix has long gathered expectations and demands from stakeholders while researching global companies’ SV and ESG activity trends. This declaration is specified into four areas: ▲‘Green 2030’ in the environmental sector ▲‘Advance Together’ in the supply chain co-growth sector ▲‘Social Safety Net’ for fulfilling social roles ▲‘Corporate Culture,’ encompassing member development and a culture based on diversity and inclusion.
Through Green 2030, SK Hynix plans to advance an eco-friendly semiconductor manufacturing system by achieving ▲RE100 by 2050 ▲net zero carbon emissions ▲zero additional emissions of air pollutants ▲Gold grade zero landfill waste ▲and a 300% increase in water resource savings. In the supply chain co-growth sector, the company aims to enhance the capabilities of material, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) partners to boost the overall competitiveness of the Korean semiconductor industry. To this end, SK Hynix will achieve a cumulative investment of 3 trillion KRW in technology cooperation with partner companies and increase sales for all partners participating in the ‘We Do Tech’ Center.
Moreover, to fulfill its social role, SK Hynix plans to establish the company’s role in preparation for crises such as pandemics and natural disasters, create a separate fund to enhance problem-solving capabilities for social issues, and build infrastructure to address problems in the regions where its business sites are located. Additionally, with the purpose of corporate management focused on employee happiness, the company will expand self-development time by guaranteeing over 2,000 hours of annual training per employee and promote the establishment of a diverse and inclusive corporate culture by increasing the hiring rate of women.
