Gyeongnam National University Department of Food Service Franchise Opens 'FOBU Baking Lab' Equipped with the Latest Facilities
2 Billion Won Invested to Establish Bakery and Barista Training Facilities
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The Department of Food Service Franchise at Gyeongnam National University announced on the 6th that it has opened the ‘FOBU Baking Lab,’ a bakery practice room, on the 5th floor of the Health Science Building.
Established as part of the University Innovation Support Project, the ‘FOBU Baking Lab’ is a bakery practice facility equipped with the latest equipment such as cooking counters, vertical fully automatic mixer dough machines, triple ovens, fermenters, pie rollers, waffle makers, and bread slicers. A total of 200 million KRW was invested in facility and equipment construction.
Additionally, with espresso machines and grinders installed, it also serves as a barista practice room, accelerating the cultivation of excellent talents such as global chefs with management mindsets and managers with international sensibilities.
The ‘FOBU’ in ‘FOBU Baking Lab’ stands for ‘Food-franchise Business.’ It reflects the vision of the Department of Food Service Franchise at Gyeongnam National University, a convergence major linked to overseas universities and aiming for 100% employment of graduates, nurturing ‘chefs’ who understand management, ‘managers’ who understand cooking, and ‘entrepreneurs’ who understand both management and cooking, summarized as ‘Growing aspirations at FOBU!’
The opening ceremony was held in strict compliance with quarantine rules, attended by about 10 people including Gyeongnam National University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Park Jae-yoon, Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation Kang Jae-gwan, Director of Planning and Coordination Hong Jeong-hyo, Director of Academic Affairs Choi Seon-wook, Director of LINC+ Project Park Eun-joo, and Dean of the College of Health Sciences Kang Ok-ju.
Lee Myung-sung, head of the Department of Food Service Franchise, stated, “Recently, interest in food, beverages, and desserts has been continuously increasing among young people. Through the establishment of the FOBU Baking Lab, we have been able to satisfy the desires of students interested in the food service industry and further enhance the quality of education.”
