'Yeoju~Wonju Subway Double-Tracking' Green Light... Feasibility Review Passed
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A green light has been given to the Yeoju~Wonju double-track railway project.
Yeoju City announced on the 5th, "The project of double-tracking the Yeoju~Wonju railway, a long-cherished city project, has passed the final review by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee, allowing the project to proceed in earnest."
According to the city, prior to passing the Ministry of Strategy and Finance review, due to changes in surrounding conditions such as the preliminary feasibility study passing for the Suseo~Gwangju double-track railway, the project was selected for a feasibility re-investigation (single track → double track) after the total project cost review by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance in December 2019.
Since the double-tracking of the Yeoju~Wonju railway has been confirmed, the city plans to promote the establishment of Gangcheon Station. According to the feasibility study for the tentative Gangcheon Station establishment commissioned by the city to Seoul National University of Science and Technology, the B/C ratio was analyzed to be 1.44, indicating economic feasibility. For station establishment, a B/C ratio of 1.0 or higher is considered economically feasible.
The city holds the position that establishing a station is necessary to solve traffic vulnerability and regional disconnection caused by the 21.95 km non-stop section without stations within the Yeoju~Wonju railway project section.
