Opening and Operation of 'Nambu Agricultural Machinery Rental Center' in Nam-gu, Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) will open and operate the ‘Nambu Agricultural Machinery Rental Center’ from the New Year of the Year of the Ox to reduce the burden of purchasing agricultural machinery for small-scale farmers and increase farm household income.
According to Nam-gu on the 4th, the Nambu Agricultural Machinery Rental Center recently completed new construction and will begin full operation from the end of this month.
The Nambu Agricultural Machinery Rental Center is a long-standing wish of residents farming in the Daechon-dong area and was newly built based on the Agricultural Mechanization Promotion Act and the Special Act on Improving the Quality of Life of Farmers and Fishermen and Promoting Development of Farming and Fishing Villages.
To open this rental center, Nam-gu has been collaborating with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Gwangju City since 2019, with 1.6 billion KRW funded by the national and city governments, and the project has been carried out on the condition that Nam-gu Office provides the land.
The Nambu Agricultural Machinery Rental Office is expected to be equipped with about 200 units of over 70 types of agricultural machinery necessary for farming, including agricultural tractors, cultivators, and rotary tillers. Staff will be assigned to the office to ensure that farmers can use the rental center comfortably throughout the year.
Once the agricultural machinery rental office opens, expensive agricultural machinery can be rented at low costs, which is expected to greatly help reduce farming expenses and increase farm household income.
For example, the daily rental cost of a 43-horsepower tractor for greenhouse facilities is expected to be 93,000 KRW, and rotary tillers and sweet potato harvesters can be rented at about 8,000 KRW and 12,000 KRW respectively.
The rental target for agricultural machinery is farmers residing within Gwangju City, and the rental period is up to 3 days per application.
However, if there are no waiting users for the machinery, the rental period may be extended.
