Jeongeup-si Opens First 'Food Market' for Low-Income Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 4th that the 'Cham Joeun Food Market' to address the issue of food insecurity among low-income households has opened.
The Food Market is a charity marketplace that provides food and essential daily necessities donated by companies or individuals to low-income and welfare-vulnerable groups.
It operates as a market where beneficiaries can visit the store directly to obtain food and daily necessities generated at the production, distribution, sales, and consumption stages free of charge.
Its purpose is to quickly provide food to vulnerable groups at risk of food insecurity, thereby preventing hunger, improving nutrition, and establishing a social safety net.
The Food Market serves about 500 low-income households in the area, including child-headed households and elderly living alone, who are at risk of food insecurity.
Once a month, beneficiaries can select up to five necessary food or daily necessity items for free. Operating hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding weekends and public holidays.
