The quality assessment is conducted in accordance with the "Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act" and the "Health and Environment Research Institute Act," and is a system in which national institutions recognize the accuracy and reliability of test results for infectious diseases occurring in each region.
This assessment was conducted on a total of 600 institutions nationwide, including 17 city and provincial health and environment research institutes performing infectious disease laboratory tests, national quarantine stations, and public health centers.
The evaluation covered 35 items in 12 fields, including legally designated infectious diseases such as latent tuberculosis, syphilis, food poisoning pathogens, and enterovirus infections. The Jeonnam Provincial Institute of Health and Environment received a satisfactory rating in all items, thereby being officially recognized by the nation for its testing capabilities.
Shin Mi-young, head of the Microbiology Department, said, "We are pleased to have our testing capabilities certified through the quality assessment," adding, "We will do our best to create a safe environment from infectious diseases by responding quickly and accurately to legally designated infectious diseases through continuous management and strengthening the surveillance system."
