Jiyoungmi Appointed as Director of Korea Pasteur Institute
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Ji Young-mi, former head of the Infectious Disease Research Center at the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's National Institute of Health, will be inaugurated as the new director of the Korea Pasteur Institute on the 1st.
Director Ji is an international infectious disease expert who has worked extensively for over 20 years at major domestic and international health and research institutions. She has served as head of the Infectious Disease Research Center and Immunopathology Center at the National Institute of Health, director of the Pan-Government Infectious Disease Research Forum, and president of the Korean Society of Infectious Diseases. Additionally, as the Regional Coordinator for the Immunization Program at the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office, she collaborated with health research institutions in Asian countries to strengthen infectious disease diagnosis and research capabilities in the region.
She currently serves as a member of the WHO COVID-19 Emergency Committee, a scientific advisory member of the WHO Infectious Disease R&D Blueprint, special advisor on health and medical affairs to the Prime Minister, and special representative for health diplomacy at the Korea Foundation for International Exchanges.
From 2018 for two years, Director Ji served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Korea Pasteur Institute, providing advice on research directions based on an in-depth understanding of the institute's new drug development programs and technologies. She also promoted cooperation for infectious disease new drug development by organizing joint symposiums between the National Institute of Health and the Korea Pasteur Institute in 2016 and 2017.
Director Ji stated, "I will develop the Korea Pasteur Institute to contribute to overcoming the COVID-19 crisis by strengthening global research cooperation based on the institute’s demonstrated basic, applied, and translational research capabilities and the Pasteur Institute’s international network. I aim to enable it to play a leading role in the Asian and global infectious disease research networks in the future."

Choi Yong-kyung, chairman of the Korea Pasteur Institute, said, "We expect that through the vision and leadership of the new director Ji Young-mi, who possesses outstanding expertise and extensive domestic and international experience in the field of infectious diseases, the Korea Pasteur Institute will play a pivotal role in global infectious disease research and response."
