Mapo-gu Receives Minister of the Interior and Safety Award for Excellence in 2020 Safety Ordinance Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) announced that its "Ordinance on Support for Installation of Fire Escape Equipment in Fire-Vulnerable Houses in Mapo-gu" was selected as an excellent case in the "2020 Excellent Safety Ordinance Competition" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, winning the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award.
The nationwide Excellent Safety Ordinance Competition, held for the first time this year by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was organized to discover excellent cases of local governments that contributed to strengthening safety management and to facilitate the sharing and dissemination of excellent safety ordinance information among local governments.
This competition involved the evaluation of a total of 43 safety-related ordinances independently operated by local governments for their unique affairs, resulting in fierce competition with a ratio of 14:1.
As a result, Mapo-gu's safety ordinance was selected as one of the final three excellent ordinances, sharing the honor of receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award along with Gangwon Province and Dongnae-gu, Busan.
In July 2019, the district established the Ordinance on Support for Installation of Fire Escape Equipment in Fire-Vulnerable Houses in Mapo-gu, creating a legal basis to support fire escape equipment (emergency escape devices) for "small-scale houses vulnerable to fire," which had previously been in a safety management blind spot due to lack of related legal grounds.
This award can be seen as a high evaluation of Mapo-gu's efforts to safely protect the lives of residents from emergencies such as fires by supporting the installation of emergency escape devices in fire-vulnerable locations.
Meanwhile, the district continues to accept applications for support in installing fire escape equipment (emergency escape devices) to prevent potential risks that may occur at any time to residents.
In addition, after installing the emergency escape devices, training on their use is provided to enable residents to evacuate independently.
