75-Year-Old Man Dies 2 Hours After Receiving Pfizer Vaccine in Israel
Ministry of Health: "No Apparent Link Between Vaccine and Death"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] In Israel, an incident occurred where a man in his 70s died just over two hours after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
According to local media including The Jerusalem Post on the 29th (local time), the Israeli Ministry of Health announced that a 75-year-old man living in Beit She'an in the north died at his home about two hours after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine the previous day. Foreign media reported that the cause of death appeared to be heart failure.
The man received the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German company BioNTech at a hospital around 8:30 a.m. the previous day. He stayed at the hospital for 30 minutes to monitor for side effects and, finding no abnormalities, returned home. Shortly after arriving home, he reportedly lost consciousness.
The Israeli Ministry of Health stated in an initial investigation that there appeared to be no connection between the man's death and the vaccine, noting that the deceased had underlying conditions such as heart disease and cancer. This is the first known case in Israel of a person dying within hours after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The Ministry announced it will form a committee to investigate the incident.
