Meeting and Consultation Held... Both Countries Agree to Continue Talks on North Korean Nuclear and North Korea Issues
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 29th, newly appointed Roh Kyu-duk, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Office for Peace and Negotiations on the Korean Peninsula, held his first telephone consultation combined with a courtesy meeting with Wu Jianghao, Deputy Director-General of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Director-General Wu Jianghao was appointed at the end of September and is in charge of affairs related to the Korean Peninsula. This consultation was his first with the Korean side.
Both sides shared assessments of the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and exchanged views on ways to cooperate to advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula while managing the current situation stably.
In this consultation, Director General Roh requested China’s role in resuming dialogue with North Korea, and Deputy Director-General Wu evaluated South Korea’s efforts so far to advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula and reaffirmed China’s willingness to cooperate.

Both sides agreed to continue consultations between the two countries on North Korea’s nuclear and related issues through various means, including face-to-face meetings, as soon as possible.
