CJ Logistics Deploys Over 2,200 Workers for Parcel Sorting... Achieves 56% of Target
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] CJ Logistics announced on the 29th that as of the 21st, the number of receiving support personnel deployed under the 'Comprehensive Measures to Protect Delivery Workers and Couriers' reached 2,259. This corresponds to 56.4% of CJ Logistics' target workforce of 4,000 by the end of March next year.
According to CJ Logistics, the additional receiving support personnel deployed by region are 1,337 in the Seoul metropolitan area, 223 in Gyeongbuk, 265 in Gyeongnam, 216 in Chungcheong, and 218 in Honam. These receiving support personnel are responsible for stacking delivery boxes, which have been automatically sorted by wheel sorters installed at sub-terminals, in a way that makes it easier for delivery workers to load them onto vehicles.
Their working hours vary depending on the delivery workers and the working methods of each delivery branch, but are known to be approximately 4 to 6 hours. Accordingly, the overall working hours of delivery workers are also decreasing, according to the company.
Unlike other courier companies, CJ Logistics has completed the introduction of wheel sorters at sub-terminals and is additionally introducing MP, a small parcel automatic sorter, with an investment of 160 billion KRW. Since the end of October, four more locations have been added, and currently, 39 sub-terminals have been equipped. The plan is to increase this to 79 locations next year.
A CJ Logistics official stated, "Despite various on-site variables and difficulties in recruitment, we are closely communicating with delivery branches and delivery workers to complete the deployment of receiving support personnel more quickly," adding, "We are faithfully implementing measures to protect delivery workers and couriers and transparently disclosing the progress to the public."

Meanwhile, CJ Logistics is conducting a research project commissioned to a professional institution to calculate the appropriate daily delivery volume that healthy delivery workers can handle. Starting from January next year, the free health checkup cycle for delivery workers will be shortened from two years to one year, and cardiovascular examination items will be added. In cooperation with the Workers' Health Center under the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, health consultations related to cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, and job stress linked to health checkups will also be provided. CJ Logistics will bear all related costs.
