14 New COVID-19 Cases in Gyeongnam... Extension of 'Social Distancing Level 2'
Geoje Hot Springs, Provincial Office of Education, Family Cluster Infections Continue... Level 2 Extended Until January 3
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Gyeongnam Province shows no signs of slowing down.
As of 1:30 PM on the 28th, Gyeongnam Province announced that 14 new confirmed cases have been reported: 3 in Jinju, 2 each in Changwon, Miryang, Gimhae, Goseong, and Geoje, and 1 in Sacheon.
First, all three confirmed cases in Jinju were tested positive after experiencing symptoms themselves and were classified as cases 1238 to 1240 respectively. The infection routes are under investigation.
The two confirmed cases in Changwon, a man and a woman in their 60s, are family members and were classified as cases 1227 and 1228.
The two confirmed cases in Gimhae, women in their 50s, were both in contact with case 1198 and were classified as cases 1231 and 1232 after testing positive.
A woman in her 40s in Miryang tested positive after contact with family member case 871 and was classified as case 1236. Another family member, a female under 10 years old, was also confirmed positive and classified as case 1237.
Among the confirmed cases in Geoje, a woman in her 40s is related to the Geoje 'Haesuboyang Oncheon' cluster and was classified as case 1229. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to Haesuboyang Oncheon to 28.
Additionally, a man in his 30s who had contact with case 932 tested positive in a pre-release quarantine test and was classified as case 1230.
The two confirmed cases in Goseong are both colleagues of case 933, an employee of the provincial education office, and tested positive in pre-release quarantine tests, classified as cases 1233 and 1234. This increases the total number of confirmed cases related to the provincial education office to 12.
The confirmed case in Sacheon is a female teenager who had contact with case 1226; they are acquaintances. It was confirmed that both participated in a university student volunteer program and visited a high school in Sacheon. Testing is currently underway for about 60 faculty and students at the high school.
Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 1,237 (301 hospitalized, 932 discharged, 4 deceased).

At a briefing on the same day, Shin Jong-woo, Director of the Provincial Welfare and Health Bureau, stated, "The province will extend Social Distancing Level 2 until January 3rd, coinciding with the special measures period for strengthened quarantine during the year-end and New Year holidays."
