Incheon Environmental Corporation Initiates Reduction of 130,000 Tons of Annual Sewage Waste
Targeting 80% Humidity and 1.7 Billion KRW Cost Reduction
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon Environmental Corporation has embarked on reducing waste generated from sewage treatment facilities in line with Incheon City's resource circulation policy.
The corporation announced on the 28th that it has established a plan to reduce sewage treatment waste, aiming to achieve an 80% moisture content rate in sewage sludge, reduce the amount of contaminants by 10%, and save 1.7 billion KRW in treatment costs next year.
First, it will promote the reduction of sewage sludge through high-efficiency equipment improvements. To this end, by 2022, it plans to invest 2.2 billion KRW in national funds to replace dewatering machines at the Gajwa and Seunggi sewage treatment facilities to enhance equipment efficiency.
Additionally, each business site will operate a moisture content target management system for waste generated during the sewage treatment process, aiming to lower the moisture content rate to 80%.
To minimize the inflow of unknown water (water of unknown origin) that causes sewage waste, a collaborative system will be established with sewage pipe management agencies.
Wet wipes and similar items entering sewage treatment plants are causes of excessive sewage waste generation, and voluntary reduction will be encouraged through public awareness campaigns.
Along with this, the corporation will share excellent results in moisture content reduction with environmental companies and institutions and strengthen moisture content treatment technology capabilities through technical exchanges.
Currently, the Namhang branch is promoting a performance-sharing system with the project titled 'Reducing Moisture Content of Dewatered Cake Using Sludge Odor Reducer,' achieving a remarkable improvement in actual moisture content. If the final effect analysis adopts it as a performance-sharing agenda, it will be expanded to all business sites.
The corporation expects that through this sewage treatment waste reduction plan, it can reduce sewage treatment costs, which currently stand at 17 billion KRW this year, by about 1.7 billion KRW.
