Gangbuk-gu Installs 'Fine Dust Traffic Lights'... Accelerating Reduction Measures
Installed Fine Dust Traffic Lights in 14 High Foot Traffic Areas... Promoting Seasonal Fine Dust Management System with Special Points and Expansion of Eco-Friendly Home Boilers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is carrying out various projects to reduce fine dust.
Recently, the district installed fine dust traffic lights that allow people to see air pollutants at a glance.
The fine dust traffic light is a device that displays the surrounding fine dust concentration in real time using colors and images. It indicates the pollution level with colors: Good (blue, 0~30㎍/㎥) ▲ Moderate (green, 31~80㎍/㎥) ▲ Bad (yellow, 81~150㎍/㎥) ▲ Very Bad (red, 150㎍/㎥~).
The traffic light can display not only fine dust concentration but also various information such as ozone, temperature, humidity, and cold index.
This information continuously changes like traffic lights on the road, allowing residents to easily understand the air quality including fine dust.
The installation locations include 14 areas with high foot traffic such as subway station exits, main roads, rivers, parks, and public institutions.
From this month until March next year, the district is also implementing the "Seasonal Fine Dust Management System." During this period, passenger car mileage members who drive less than 1850 km will receive mileage points worth 10,000 KRW.
During the same period, households enrolled in the "Eco Mileage" program (a resident participation program that provides incentives for reducing energy consumption) that reduce their average energy usage by more than 20% compared to the previous two years will receive additional incentives.
Eco Mileage members can convert their mileage points into cash or use them to reduce apartment management fees. They can also receive mobile cultural gift certificates or traditional market Onnuri gift certificates.
Additionally, the district plans to continue supporting subsidies for installing eco-friendly boilers in households. General households receive 200,000 KRW per unit, and vulnerable groups receive 500,000 KRW.
The district will also continue special inspections to check for idling of vehicles and whether emission standards are exceeded.
