Sangju City Files Complaint Against Intercop BTJ Yeolbang Center Representative for Damaging COVID-19 Gathering Ban Order
Confirmed Cases Continue Among Pastors and Contacts Visiting Yeolbang Center
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Sangju City announced on the 27th that it has reported Mr. A, the representative of the BTJ World Mission Center, a missionary facility in Hwaseo-myeon, to the police on charges of violating the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act for damaging the assembly ban order issued due to confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The BTJ World Mission Center, operated by the Christian missionary corporation 'Intercop', was reported by Sangju City for holding an event with 2,577 participants over two days from October 9 to 10. Subsequently, the case was forwarded to the prosecution with the police's opinion for indictment.
Additionally, during a gathering at the same BTJ World Mission Center over two days starting November 27, about 500 people participated, and a visitor residing in Daegu was confirmed positive. Earlier this month, during an event held over two days from the 11th, a visitor from Gangseo-gu, Seoul, was also confirmed positive.
Accordingly, Sangju City has again reported the center's representative Mr. A to the police on charges of obstructing epidemiological investigations. A pastor from a church in Sangju was also found to have visited this place based on GPS investigation, and it is reported that seven members of this church were confirmed positive.
