Ministry of Culture and Ministry of the Interior Officials in Sejong City Confirmed with COVID-19 One After Another
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Following a public official from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety working in Sejong City, a public official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the Government Complex Management Headquarters on the 25th, A, a public official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism working on the 2nd floor of Building 15 in the Government Sejong Complex, was infected with COVID-19.
After the official’s spouse tested positive the previous day, A also underwent a specimen test and received a positive result on the same day.
He traveled on a business trip to Seoul from the afternoon of the 21st to the 23rd and worked in the Sejong Complex office until the morning of the 24th.
The Complex Management Headquarters disinfected the office of A’s department and common areas on the 25th. The connecting passage between Buildings 14 and 15 was blocked.
Employees of the department were instructed to stay at home, and in consultation with Sejong City, specimen tests will be conducted on all employees working on that floor on the 26th.
Earlier, on the previous day, B, a public official working on the 8th floor of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s 1st Annex Building in Eojin-dong, Sejong City, was confirmed positive for COVID-19. The building was closed and emergency disinfection measures were taken.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety leases floors 4 to 8 of the KT&G building for use as the 1st Annex. Most regional and administrative organizations, except for the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters in the main building, are housed there. Approximately 250 people work on the 8th floor.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety requires all employees working on the 8th floor of the 1st Annex to undergo specimen testing and recommends testing for other employees as well. Cleaning, facility management, and security personnel within the annex building are also required to be tested.
