Gwangyang-si Takes Initiative to Create a Safe City Environment for Women and Children
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City is attracting attention by carrying out various environmental improvement projects so that women and children can live safely.
This year, the city installed about 200 wall-mounted lights in the alleys of the old downtown area of Gwangyang-eup, and since 2018, it has installed 34 logo projectors around schools and areas with heavy nighttime traffic to deliver safety and encouragement messages to citizens on their way home.
In addition, the city recently collaborated with the Gwangyang Police Station to additionally install LED solar-powered wall-mounted lights in the alleys of Yongdu Village and Waryong Village in Yonggang-ri, Gwangyang-eup, focusing on preventing nighttime accidents and crimes.
The installed wall-mounted lights are wireless lighting using solar power, operating only when movement is detected by sensors, which helps reduce public electricity costs. They can be installed without separate electrical facilities, making them helpful in preventing safety accidents in narrow alleys and other vulnerable crime prevention areas.
Along with this, the city-operated ‘Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group’ regularly monitors the condition of installed facilities and listens to residents’ opinions to assist safe returns home.
