Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to Introduce Multiple Vice Ministers System... Dedicated to the 'Energy Sector'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 24th that it has put forward a partial amendment bill to the Government Organization Act for public consultation, allowing the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to appoint a vice minister dedicated to energy policy functions.
The newly established 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will be responsible for accelerating the essential energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality and fostering future energy industries such as hydrogen energy.
Currently, ministries with multiple vice ministers include the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. With the addition of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the total will become seven ministries.
The partial amendment bill to the Government Organization Act, which includes the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s organizational restructuring plan, will be open for public consultation until January 4, 2021, and after gathering opinions, it is scheduled to be submitted to the National Assembly in February 2021.

Regarding the subordinate organizations under the energy-dedicated vice minister, they will be reflected in the Presidential Decree in accordance with the enforcement date after the amendment to the Government Organization Act passes the National Assembly.
