Hanwha Group Selected as Support Recipient for 2020 Happy Sunshine Campaign
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hanwha Group has selected 29 recipients for the '2020 Happy Sunshine' campaign, which installs and supports solar power generation facilities free of charge at social welfare facilities and other locations. The recipients were recruited through the Hanwha Volunteer Corps website, and final selections were made after document screening and on-site inspections.
The total power generation capacity of the newly selected 29 locations is 173 kW, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 57 average households. Since 2011, Hanwha has supported solar power generation facilities with a total capacity of 2,187 kW at 320 welfare facilities over 10 years through the Happy Sunshine campaign. This has reduced CO2 emissions by 507 tons, equivalent to planting approximately 910,000 20-year-old pine trees.
The 'Happy Sunshine' campaign is an eco-friendly energy social contribution program utilizing solar power, Hanwha Group’s green energy business. It donates solar power generation facilities free of charge to social welfare facilities, allowing the saved electricity costs to be used for other welfare services. A thorough post-management process, including maintenance and power generation monitoring of the installed solar power facilities, has been established to prevent safety accidents in advance.
The recipients include comprehensive welfare centers and local children’s centers nationwide, as well as individuals and facilities with public interest such as social enterprises. In particular, priority was given to places with urgent need for solar power facilities, considering the size, location, and electricity usage of the facilities.
Hanwha has also installed rooftop solar power generation facilities free of charge overseas, including Wiyanggwan Elementary School in Hubei Province, China, and Xiegeouxiang Hope School in Qinghai Province. In addition, to address environmental issues such as climate change, desertification, yellow dust, and fine dust, Hanwha has created eco-friendly forests domestically and internationally through the 'Hanwha Forest of the Sun' campaign, establishing a total of seven forests in Mongolia, China, and Korea since 2012.
