Jangseong-gun Selected for 'Urban Regeneration Preliminary Project' Led by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Dooseok) announced on the 23rd that Daechang District in Jangseong-eup was finally selected in the ‘2021 Urban Regeneration Preliminary Project’ contest hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
This contest project supports residents to become the main actors of urban regeneration projects, allowing local residents to voluntarily participate in establishing project plans and designing the city.
The county focused on establishing a civil-government cooperative system and discovering project sites by ▲forming an urban regeneration residents’ council ▲operating an urban regeneration support center ▲opening an urban regeneration university, ultimately achieving selection in the Ministry of Land contest.
Starting next year, the county plans to invest 280 million KRW (including 140 million KRW in national funds) to promote the creation of a specialized street on Jungang-ro, maintenance of shared environments, and resident capacity-building education.

A county official said, “This contest is a preliminary project for the urban regeneration New Deal project promoted by the Ministry of Land,” adding, “We will do our best to be selected as a target site for the (urban regeneration) New Deal project in the future.”
