Gimcheon City Wins Grand Prize at the 6th Sports Marketing Awards... Hosting Over 30 National Competitions This Year

Gimcheon City won the Grand Prize in the local government category at the '6th Sports Marketing Awards 2020' held at 5 p.m. on the 22nd in the city hall reception room.

The award ceremony, hosted by the Korea Culture and Sports Marketing Promotion Agency and sponsored by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, was held on the 22nd by the organizers visiting the winning cities and counties directly due to COVID-19.
At the award presentation ceremony held in the reception room of Gimcheon City Hall on the afternoon of the 22nd, Kim Jae-hyun, Chairman of the Korea Culture and Sports Marketing Promotion Agency, Kang Myung-gu, Director of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, Professor Park Sung-joon of Kyonggi University, Mayor Kim Choong-seop, and Seo Jeong-hee, Chairman of the Gimcheon City Sports Council, attended.
Now in its 6th year, the Sports Marketing Awards is a specialized awards ceremony in the field of sports marketing, covering 14 sports marketing categories across 8 sectors including sports media, professional sports, and local governments.
This year, due to the COVID-19 situation, the judging was conducted only for the local government category. Gimcheon City established a thorough quarantine system despite the COVID-19 situation, hosting over 30 nationwide competitions and attracting 40 training teams.
It was also recognized for its continuous active sports marketing efforts such as attracting the Sangmu professional football team, operating the Hi-Pass volleyball team’s home base, and expanding community sports facilities to improve citizens' quality of life.

Mayor Kim Choong-seop of Gimcheon said, "I feel great pride that our city, the center of sports in Korea visited by more than 300,000 people annually through hosting over 60 competitions every year, has won the grand prize," and pledged, "We will continue to work harder for regional economic revitalization and the development of sports in Korea."
