Contribution to the Establishment of the Large Waste SMART Emission Management Operation System
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun District Office, received the Grand Prize in the Local Government Head category at the '2020 Korea Public Policy Awards' for his contribution to the establishment of the 'Large Waste SMART Discharge Management Operation System.'
Hosted by the Korean Public Policy Association, the 'Korea Public Policy Awards' recognize institutions and individuals who have established and implemented exemplary policies to enhance citizens' rights and interests with expertise and public interest across various fields such as legislation, administration, education, local governments, public institutions, and corporations.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun District Office built a responsive web page called the 'Large Waste Smart Discharge Management System' to resolve residents' inconveniences caused by the discharge of large household waste through an employee idea contest.
Until now, residents experienced inconvenience due to the cumbersome waste reporting procedures caused by the obligation to purchase and attach a reporting certificate, as well as difficulties in managing collection status, which led to urban aesthetic degradation and illegal dumping.
With the introduction of this system, residents can conveniently use mobile devices to report waste discharge via QR code and confirm processing results by receiving collection completion notification messages.
Dongdaemun District has achieved various outcomes, including saving an average of 4.8 million KRW annually in the production cost of reporting certificates through the establishment of an integrated management system, and preventing urban aesthetic degradation caused by long-term abandoned waste by utilizing a waste map that allows checking uncollected periods.
