The intersection plaza construction project had faced difficulties such as securing a budget since its designation as an urban planning facility for a traffic plaza in 1968, but the groundbreaking has finally begun after 52 years.
This project will invest a total of 31.4 billion KRW in a 11,502㎡ site in the Cheonjeon-dong area. The city plans to focus on completing the project by next year. However, to quickly resolve traffic congestion and inconvenience for citizens at the intersection, the transportation facilities will be completed in the first half of next year.
The project includes improvements to the current irregular intersection layout, installation of a roundabout, parking lots, expansion of pedestrian spaces for convenience, and the creation of a traffic plaza that includes a rest area for citizens to alleviate traffic and parking difficulties in the downtown area.
Additionally, the old Jinju Station complex cultural park, to be built on the abandoned railway site, will serve as a gateway to the National Jinju Museum.
