Police Completely Revamp Cybercrime Reporting System...Significantly Improved Convenience
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police's online reporting and consultation system for various cybercrimes such as cyber fraud and cyber defamation is undergoing a complete transformation, significantly improving convenience.
The National Police Agency announced on the 22nd that it will fully revamp the Cybercrime Reporting System (ECRM) and launch the public service from 9 a.m. on the 23rd.
The revamped system will first add a file attachment feature for reports and tips, allowing related evidence to be submitted online. As a result, it is expected that the time spent visiting police stations will be greatly reduced since document preparation and evidence submission can be done entirely online.
Additionally, in cases of multi-victim cyber fraud where multiple people have been harmed, if one person has already undergone an in-person investigation, other victims can initiate an investigation simply by submitting an online report with evidence included.
Another notable feature is the introduction of a tip-off function. If a third party, not the victim, discovers a cybercrime, they can report it, which is expected to reduce mechanical attendance requests for complainants.
Over the past five years, total crimes have decreased by 13.4%, from 1,861,657 cases to 1,612,434 cases, but cybercrimes have increased by 24.8%, from 144,679 cases to 180,499 cases.
