Gwangju University Students Awarded for Practicing Love for Neighbors in Welfare Blind Spots
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University recently held the 2020 Academic Year Social Service Award Ceremony, the university announced on the 21st.
The Social Service Award, established to fulfill the university's philosophy and functions and to encourage students' social service activities, selected a total of 19 awardees based on the cumulative annual volunteer hours.
Among the awardees, student Cho Chang-hyun (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2nd year), who volunteered a total of 289 hours, received the President's Award; Yeom Ga-hyun (Department of Occupational Therapy, 2nd year) and four others received the Dean's Award; and Seo Ye-rim (Department of Social Welfare, 2nd year) and twelve others received the Social Service Team Leader's Award.
Kim Cheol-min, Dean of the College of Health and Welfare Education at Gwangju University, said, "Volunteering is about living a life that cares for others, but it is only possible when you love yourself. I hope that through a volunteering attitude, students will continue to practice love for their neighbors."
Yoon Hong-sang, Head of the Gwangju University Social Service Team, said, "Students who have lived their lives burning themselves out for volunteering should also take time to volunteer for themselves. I am proud and moved by the students who have carried out volunteer activities. I hope they never forget to live a life of service wherever they are."
Meanwhile, in October, Gwangju University opened a volunteer camp on the 2nd floor of the student union building, led mainly by university students, and is promoting various volunteer activities to help local residents in welfare blind spots.

The volunteer camp is a small-scale base center established around residential areas, and in cooperation with the Nam-gu Volunteer Center, plans to develop and support volunteer activity programs that utilize students' specialties and talents.
