View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Nana] Stanford University Hospital in the United States made an absurd mistake by excluding medical staff from the priority vaccination list for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine, prompting resident doctors to hold protest demonstrations.
On the 19th (local time), according to the New York Times (NYT) and others, Stanford Medical Center, after receiving 5,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, mistakenly excluded residents and nurses who should have been vaccinated first and instead selected cleaning and cafeteria service workers.
Investigations revealed that there was an error in the process of selecting priority recipients through the system. The vaccination list was created by scoring COVID exposure risk based on age, work area, and the number of COVID patients in each department, but residents who rotate through departments were excluded from the priority list.
As a result, out of 1,300 medical staff in the hospital, only seven had received the vaccine.
Resident doctors who had been in charge of treating COVID patients protested upon learning this fact. As the protests continued, Stanford Hospital apologized directly, admitting the mistake in creating the vaccination list.
