Now in its second year, the BGF Child Safety Citizen Award was held as a visiting awards ceremony to comply with social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This newly introduced visiting awards ceremony delivered the awards to the recipients’ locations, allowing their families to present the awards directly, adding special significance to the event.
In the citizen hero category of the BGF Child Safety Citizen Award, three individuals?Mr. A, Mr. Jomanho, and Mr. Guchangsik?were selected for saving children in danger, each receiving a certificate of appreciation, a plaque, and a prize of 10 million won.
The first recipient, Mr. A, was highly recognized for being the first to discover the abused child in Changnyeong last May, which sparked public outrage and raised national awareness about child abuse.
After finding the child who had run away from home to escape continuous abuse by the parents, Mr. A temporarily sheltered the child at the nearby CU Changnyeong Daehap store, where he, along with the store staff, took care of the child’s wound treatment and meals, and even accompanied the child to the police station, showing exceptional kindness and care until the end.
