[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] With the spread of the 'homebound year-end party' trend, the food and beverage (F&B) delivery sales of Hyundai Department Store's specialized online food mall, Hyundai Food Hall ToHome, are increasing.
Hyundai Department Store announced on the 20th that from the 1st to the 18th of this month, the sales of the food and beverage delivery service 'Baro ToHome' of 'Hyundai Food Hall ToHome' increased by 150.3% compared to the same period last month. The number of 'Baro ToHome' deliveries also increased by 85.6% compared to the previous month.
'Baro ToHome' is a service by Hyundai Department Store that delivers freshly prepared food ordered from specialized restaurants or deli brand stores directly to the delivery address within one hour. It is currently operating at 10 department store locations nationwide, including Apgujeong Main Store, Trade Center Store, Cheonho Store, and 4 outlet stores including Songdo Store and Dongdaemun Store.
A Hyundai Department Store official said, "Due to the high-intensity social distancing measures, the spread of the 'homebound year-end party' trend where people want to hold year-end gatherings at home has increased. As customers want to enjoy their meals in style even if it's just one meal, sales and delivery orders of 'Baro ToHome' have surged since December."
In particular, delivery demand from specialized restaurants such as Italian restaurants has noticeably increased. Until November, the proportion of specialized restaurant deliveries in the total 'Baro ToHome' sales was about 21.5%, but this month it has more than doubled to 51.1%. The average spending per customer in December (41,800 KRW) was also about 35% higher than last month (31,000 KRW).
Additionally, customers ordering two or more menu items increased by 65% compared to last month. Unlike general delivery apps, 'Baro ToHome' bundles menus ordered from multiple F&B stores sold at the department store into one package for delivery.
