UN Command Suspends Panmunjom Tours Amid COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] The United Nations Command announced on the 19th that it will completely suspend tours of the Joint Security Area (JSA) in Panmunjom due to the continued spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The United Nations Command stated on its official Twitter account that "all non-essential activities, including tours within the JSA, will be fully suspended." This measure was taken to protect Korean citizens and UN personnel working in the Demilitarized Zone.
At present, the timing for resuming tours remains uncertain. Earlier, on the 13th, the Ministry of Unification announced, "As a measure to strengthen COVID-19 prevention, tours of Panmunjom will be temporarily suspended starting next week," adding that "consultations were also held with the United Nations Command."
