[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Son Byung-doo, former Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Korea Exchange.
On the 18th, the Korea Exchange held its 2nd extraordinary general meeting of shareholders at its Seoul headquarters and decided to appoint former Vice Chairman Son as the 7th Chairman. Son graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in International Economics and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University in the United States. He began his public service career by passing the 33rd Administrative Examination and has held positions such as Senior Economist at the World Bank, Director of the International Organizations Division, Foreign Currency Fund Division, and G20 Planning and Coordination Team at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, as well as Director of the Financial Services Bureau, Director of Financial Policy Bureau, and Secretary General at the Financial Services Commission.
The Korea Exchange also appointed Park Cha-seok, Chairman of the Tax Group Shina, as an outside director representing the public interest, and Lee Young-chang, CEO of Shinhan Financial Investment, as an outside director representing the industry. Chairman Park graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in English Literature and has served as Chief of Ulsan Tax Office and Director of Daejeon Regional Tax Office. CEO Lee graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Sociology and has held positions such as Head of WM Business Division at Daewoo Securities and Compliance Officer at the Compliance Audit Headquarters.
